Summer Camp: 3D Printing Exploration

SUMMER SPECIAL

9 Hours (6 Sessions of 1.5 Hrs each)

Students & Beginners

Interactive & Hands-on

Our Summer Camp edition of the 3D Printing course offers a more immersive experience. Over 6 extended sessions, students progress from understanding digital 3D models to operating printers, troubleshooting, and designing their own functional items. It's a perfect blend of technology, creativity, and practical problem-solving for curious minds during the summer break.

Learning Outcomes

  • Prepare, slice, and print 3D models using an FDM 3D printer.
  • Operate a 3D printer safely and responsibly.
  • Identify and resolve common 3D printing issues.
  • Design simple functional objects with correct measurements and tolerances.
  • Select appropriate materials, settings, and printers for intended use.
  • Explain the role of additive manufacturing in modern production.

Camp Syllabus

Session 1: Digital Models, Slicing, and Print Preparation (1.5 Hours)

Introduction to STL/3MF files, slicing fundamentals (temperature, speed, layer height), and G-code generation. Extended time for multiple test slices and starting initial prints.

Session 2: Printer Setup, First Layer & Build Plate Care (1.5 Hours)

Hands-on filament loading, build plate cleaning, manual and auto bed leveling, and Z-offset tuning. In-depth focus on mastering the perfect first layer.

Session 3: Materials, Filament Handling & Print Strength (1.5 Hours)

Exploring PLA, PETG, and specialty filaments. Understanding how infill and wall thickness impact strength. Hands-on experience with moisture-affected filament and storage solutions.

Session 4: Troubleshooting & Responsible 3D Printing (1.5 Hours)

Diagnosing nozzle clogs, warping, and extrusion issues. Practical maintenance exercises and learning how to minimize waste in the printing process.

Session 5: Designing Functional Objects & Model Sources (1.5 Hours)

Learning to take accurate measurements for household items. Understanding tolerances and designing with 3D printing constraints in mind.

Session 6: Context, Applications & Future of 3D Printing (1.5 Hours)

Comparing additive vs traditional manufacturing. Deep dive into various technologies (SLA/SLS) and guidance on choosing personal 3D printing equipment.
